Case study: Loan Market

Melbourne

Loan Market are Australia’s third largest mortgage brokerage in Australia. After years of successfully operating on the road, they decided to open a shop front to give customers an opportunity to experience the brand.

The company leased a shop on the infamous Chapel Street in South Yarra, Melbourne. Three months were set aside to complete the fit-out before opening in February 2019. Jason Furnell is an experience designer and consultant for Loan Market and was asked to lead this project. He knew how to create a seamless user experience for customers, but wanted advice on the fittings and furnishings, and for that he approached Koskela.

“Basically they didn’t want it to feel like something that was in a shopping centre,” says Russel, Koskela’s Design Director. “So Jason said I want to work with Koskela because they know how to turn offices into homes. They wanted a real homey, warm feel.”

Koskela supplied a mix of homewares, furniture, and custom furniture pieces. “It felt like a mini Koskela showroom in some ways,” laughs Russel.

Interior styling is key to achieving the approachable yet aspirational brand experience Loan Market embodies. Koskela relished the opportunity to include lighting and indoor plants in the scheme, which can be the difference between an inviting space and a sterile one.

“As their first shop front this project was in many ways experimental,” says Russel. “But it was a great way to work and Loan Market are thrilled with the result.”
